Squidoo is easy to set up – less than 10 minutes and you have a site to brag about. You can add modules and increase its attractiveness. In other words, the site is ready for traffic. Lots and lots of traffic.
True, the better your page content is, the easier it will be to attract traffic to it. The good news is that there are many sites, also free, that are ready for you to use as tools to drive traffic to Squidoo.
Some of these you might already know about. Others might be completely new to you.
Two of the traditional methods are email signatures and forums. These are so common that it might be hardly worth mentioning here. But I want to be as complete as possible in this list. All you have to do for the email signature is add two lines – one with the topic of the Squidoo lens and the second line with the clickable link to your lens.
Using forums for traffic generation is linked to email signatures. When you post to a forum, you can add a signature that will be the same as your email signature. The clue here is to make a sensible post. A simple, “yes, I agree” is not going to impress anyone enough that they will look at your signature let alone click on your link.
Another method is through blogs. You can set up a free blog and in some ways it is like Squidoo. The main similarity is that blogs like Squidoo are about relationships you build with your readers. You can also post in other people’s blogs.
Speaking of relationships, in Squidoo you are not alone. By visiting other lenses you get to know others in your own area of interest and conversely they get to know you. This means that you can also be seen by their readers. All you have to do is make a few comments in other lenses.
Through the use of social bookmarking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, you can also make friends who can be enticed to your lens.
Used effectively these methods will bring in traffic but the fact is when readers get to your lens, you better have some seriously good content. Otherwise people will feel cheated.
The content, if it is original and well-written and rich with keywords, will not only retain readers but it will pull in traffic from Google.
Yahoo also offers a surprising way to attract visitors — Yahoo Questions. Set up a free account and start answering questions. Make sure your link is visible when you answer questions. You will be setting yourself up as an expert and letting the millions who see your answer know that you offer more information at Squidoo.
