Earlier we discussed choosing a niche that fits your passions. If you have several passions or feel that your passion is not of broad interest, you might start questioning your choice of niche.
Take a look at other Squidoo lenses. What you do is go to Google and do a search for a niche topic. You will be surprised at how often the top ranking results are Squidoo lens.
You should also look at Squidoo’s top 100. You will realize once you look at these top sites that content is paramount. The niches in the top 100 are topics that you might think are really narrow slices of a topic. But that is the point. Your lens can be really focused. If you feel that it is too focused, then you can create more lenses.
This might fly in the face of all the wisdom you have been listening to where you are supposed to choose a topic that many people are looking for but you can focus on the narrowest topic in the world, use Squidoo to make it highly ranked and then target your market.
If you are already a webmaster, then your decision is easy. Make a lens for every single web you own. Spread the word. Hit Google from both sides and link your site to Squidoo and Squidoo to your site.
Choose the best keywords for your niche and pepper your lens with them. Make sure the main keyword is in your lens’s title and in the lens url.
The bottom line when it comes to niches is that you don’t have to be quite as tightly targeted as your web page and in reality many webmasters use Squidoo for market research. Suppose you have a great idea for a niche but don’t want to put a lot of time and money into seeing how well it fares in the public venue. Put it on Squidoo and see how quickly it rises up the lensrank. This is an excellent indication of how well it will do out in the larger world.
