Internet Marketing News Launch

I have launched a new site for the purpose of getting all of my Internet Marketing News in one place.

It’s called Nick’s IM News.

But before I jump into why I think this new site is so nifty let me give you just a wee bit of history.

In the past when there were just a few sites and blogs to follow I used RSS to keep me up to date on what was new in IM (Internet Marketing).

But as the number of sites to follow grew and my time to read them dwindled I realized that we needed something that could incorporate all the hundreds (or thousands?) of articles/blog-posts/news-stories that surface everyday.

Looking around the ‘net I didn’t really find anything that did this. Digg.com had the right idea but had a different focus. I wanted something focused on IM related topics & issues.

So after searching in vain I decided to build it myself.

It took me a couple weeks of part-time work but I think it’s finally ready.

The idea with this site is that it is like digg.com where people contribute a link and a short description of some IM related site they have come across and found to be useful.

They are not submitting the full article/blog-post/news-story but rather just a link & short description. If a visitor finds it useful they click on the link and read the full story.

It’s a bit like having an rss feed from many sites with each feed item categorized. In addition visitors can vote for the stuff they like and display the stuff that has the most votes.

Stuff with lots of votes gets pushed towards the top; stuff with fewer votes gets pushed down.

And there are new sites added everyday by visitors.

Links from huge blogs like problogger are submitted by our users as well as content from obscure blogs and websites.

The great thing is that all submissions are on an equal playing ground regardless of what site they link to. And the more votes they get the more people get to see them.

Taking this one step further, every time you submit a site and short description of it, you also get to include a link to your own site as part of the submission.

At the bottom of every thing submitted is a line that says
“Contributed by: Your-link”.

So every time you submit something you get a free back-link to a site of your choosing. If you submit 10 sites you get 10 free back-links.

If something you submit is really good and gets a ton of votes then your back-link is going to have a ton of people looking at it.

Anyone can submit a site by clicking on the “Submit a Site” link at the bottom of the left navigation.

Submitted sites are approved by me every few hours for now but I eventually hope to hire moderators to help with this every hour. I also have setup things up so that if a given domain is approved then everything submitted with that domain will be approved automatically.
