Starting Your Lens
Everyone has their own specialty, their own area of expertise. So when you sit down in front of your computer to think about starting your lens, let your passions rise. Your expertise could be in backgammon, fishing, baking bread, playing monopoly.
I mean – who would ever imagine that a top Squidoo lens would be on laptop bags? But there it is.
For me the clue to my passion is when my friends yawn when I start telling them for the umpteenth time about the wonders of my favorite topic. If you still cannot focus on your favorite topic look at your books and magazines. Trust me, you will see a theme.
Once you figure out the information you want to share with the world, sign up for free at Squidoo. Once you sign up, you are a lensmaster which means that you have a page that you can use to promote your topic.
No – you do not have to be a webmaster. Once you click on Build a Lens, the Squidoo wizard steps you through the process.
Once you get going, if you have questions, there is SquidU. This is essentially a forum for questions, answers, and advice on Squidooing. The SquidU team either already has the answer for your question or will find the answer.
Now, it gets better. You can make money from your Squidoo lens. The site is free to join and the tools you use are free. Squidoo has advertising and it will be related to your lens’ content. But the really good news is that you will get a share of that advertising income if you have visitors to your lens.
As an aside, you should know that even if someone else has a lens on your topic, it does not matter. Everyone looks at things in a different way so what you say about your favorite topic will be different from what the other lensmasters say about the same topic on their lens.
But back to making money on Squidoo. There are a number of ways you can earn cash via Squidoo. One of the ways is that Squidoo can move you to the top of your niche market and thereby drive traffic to your own website. Because Squidoo is search engine friendly your Squidoo page can rise to the top of Google and get you all the attention you need.

To sum up, you set up a free Squidoo account. Then you choose a title for your lens and this should contain your keyword. The second step is to your lens and the tools are there for this. The third step is to choose the link for your lens and this should be a keyword phrase. You also choose a category and the rating – general, adult, etc. The final step is to tag your lens with related keyword phrases.
