Market Potential of Squidoo

by Nick on June 4, 2008

Your Squidoo lens focuses on a specific topic. Chances are you have other sites and online presences that also focus on this topic. The trick is to bring them all together in this one single attractive lens.

Because Google loves Squidoo, your Squidoo page can run up the ranks pretty easily. Then when surfers see your Squidoo page, you can have more links and feeds to your other sites.

If you don’t have a lot of other sites, then you have some serious work to do. The whole panorama for success is right there before you. There are many options for getting traffic through Squidoo – and no-cost traffic at that. You also have to get out there and spread the word.

Some of the best places for spreading the words about your Squidoo lens are forums and emails. In both cases, this is about as passive as your marketing can get. On forums, make sure your post signature includes the URL for your Squidoo lens. Once the other forum members click through – and they will because they are curious about you – they will have a gateway to your whole marketing world.

Emails are the same because you use the link in your signature and because your emails go out to people who know you to some extent and will look at your signature out of interest.

Social bookmarking is similar in that on sites such as FaceBook, MySpace, and Digg you are involved in a social network where you find people who share your interests and possibly know you personally, It is an ideal place to share information about your Squidoo lens.

Don’t forget the Squidoo community itself. There are likely more than a few lenses related to yours. Go and visit those lenses. Comment on the lenses. Join groups that are related to your topic. Feedback from other lensmasters will also help. By connecting with other Squidooers, you are also putting your lens in front of their traffic as well.

Another excellent traffic generator is Yahoo Answers. Questions come pouring in constantly. There are questions on every imaginable topic. Get a Yahoo account and log into the Answers tab. When you answer a question put in your URL as a further resource – of course, make sure that your answer is on the topic of your website. Your answer (and website) will be in the search engines in a matter of hours.

These are ways to get the word out. Of course, you need to bolster your marketing with content. When people come to your lens, you want to dazzle them. Make sure you have top quality content. This is not the place to go for the cheapest deal if you are outsourcing your content. You need original information to attract and keep people coming back to your lens. If you have a good lens title and a good keyword rich document can get your lens ranking high on Google in a matter of days, if not hours.

Speaking of articles, article marketing is a tried and true method of getting the word out so make this an essential part of any marketing plan. Just make sure that your articles are topnotch. The better they are, the more people will want to visit your site.

Great suggestion. I never thought about Yahoo Answers, although it is logically and meaningful.

Hey Nick,

The question becomes how much focus do you put in Squidoo vs. your actual site? What do you recommend? Great project you have going here and keep up the good work. I added your link.

Thanks.
